HOW TO INSTALL YOUR NEW PINUP POPPER 2.0 SSD DRIVE

PRE-REQUISITES

  1. Connect a wired or wireless keyboard and mouse to your ULTRA VP’s computer. You have two USB slots under the front side of the machine in the front of the soft shutdown button. We recommend a keyboard with built in mousepad for ease of use like the Logitech K400 Plus for example.

 

  1. Plug in your new SSD drive (refer to SSD installation video if unsure how to do this here:  https://youtu.be/zwv6YVTXm0E ). Do NOT plug in your new encryption dongle yet (and remove any old silver encryption dongles). Boot up your ULTRA VP and click Cancel when the “Could not find license window” pops up  (or close the window with the X key on your keyboard).

 

STEP 1: CHECK THE MONITOR SETTINGS

 

  1. Open Display Setting (right click on the desktop to access)

  2. Make sure the monitors are lining up correctly (refer to the video for visual)

  3. Make sure that you see a number on each screen when you click IDENTIFY
    (you may not be able to see the number on the middle DMD screen since a portion of the screen is covered. You can usually see a portion of the number if you look at it closer top down at an angle)

  4. Set Scale & Layout to 100% on each monitor

  5. Close the window with the X mark on the top right

 

STEP 2: NVIDIA GRAPHICS CARD SETTINGS  

 

Open your nVidia Control Panel (refer to the video for details)

1) Under the Display section (left menu) click on Change Resolution

  • Select the large primary display (first one)

  • Make sure that it is set to 3840 x 2160 (native)

  • Make sure it is set to USE NVIDIA COLOR SETTINGS (not use default settings!)

    Set to:  Highest 32bit 

    • Set to:  8 bpc

    • Set to:  RGB 

    • Set to:  Output Dynamic Range:   Full

 

  • Click  Apply

  • This step does NOT need to be repeated for the other monitors

2) Under the Video section (left menu)

 

  • Click on Adjust Video Color Settings

  • Select primary (first monitor)

  • Select With the Nvidia Settings (not with Video Player Settings)

  • Set the drop down menu box to Dynamic Range:  FULL (0-255)

  • Now repeat these steps for ALL the other monitors

  • Click Apply



STEP 3: UPDATING THE CONTROL BOARD FIRMWARE

An important step is to ensure that your Pinscape control board firmware is on the latest release. On 1.0 and 2.0 models you actually have two KLZ control boards mounted on top. Each one needs to have the firmware upgraded. Repeat the steps below for both boards…

  1. Type the word File and then click on File Explorer to open it (choice that shows up on top of your search box)

  2. On the left side click on Local Disk C: 

  3. Locate and click on the PinscapeConfigTool folder

  4. Locate the PinscapeConfigTool.exe (Application) file and double click to open it

  5. The window Pinscape Setup will open

  6. Select the third choice named Update

  7. This will open up the Firmware Update window

  8. Click on latest available firmware file and then it will start prompting you through the steps needed

  9. It will instruct you to move the USB cable on the control board from the Joystick port into the Programming port  (if unsure how to do this please refer to the video to see how to do this)

  10. You will see it progress to Step 4 if programming was successful

  11. Now it will ask you to unplug the USB cable from the Programming port back into the Joystick port (basically reversing what you did to program the board)

  12. It should now tell you that “The Firmware Update was successfully completed”

  13. Remember to repeat the same steps for the second control board.

 


STEP 4: INSTALL YOUR ENCRYPTION DONGLE  

  1. Plug your new encryption dongle into one of your USB ports

  2. Push your soft shutdown button (if you have one) to switch off the ULTRA VP (give it 10 seconds)

  3. Push your hard shutdown On/Off switch to turn it off completely

  4. Restart your ULTRA VP and let it load into Pinup Popper




TROUBLESHOOTING



  • THE BACKGLASS PICTURE IS MISSING WHEN YOU LAUNCH A TABLE FROM THE PINUP POPPER MENU FRONTEND:

 

  1. From the Pinup Menu Frontend (not from inside of a table) hit the X key on your keyboard to exit Pinup Popper onto the Windows 10 desktop

  2. Type the word File and then click on File Explorer to open it (choice that shows up on top of your search box)

  3. On the left side click on Local Disk C: 

  4. Locate and open the following folder:  C:\vPinball\VisualPinball\Tables

  5. Locate the B2S_SetUp.exe (Application) file and double click to open it

  6. You will need to change the number next to the Backglass Display to either 2 or 3 (whichever it is not right now)

  7. Close that windows by clicking on the X on the top right



  • THE BACKGLASS PICTURE IS MISSING WHEN YOU LAUNCH THE JUKEBOX:

  1. From the Pinup Menu Frontend (not from inside of a table) hit the X key on your keyboard to exit Pinup Popper onto the

  2. Type the word File and then click on File Explorer to open it (choice that shows up on top of your search box)

  3. On the left side click on Local Disk C: 

  4. Locate and open the following folder:  C:\vPinball\Jukebox

  5. Locate the Settings.conf (CONF File) file and RIGHT click then select Edit to open it

  6. Locate the Display section (it looks like the text below)

  7. You can see that there are screenNum entries which represent the display screens (yours may only show two of them)

  8. The main playfield screen is screenNum0  =  0   and that should be working fine.

  9. The next entry is screenNum1  and it is set to 2. You should change it to 1

  10. Then make sure click on File and SAVE before closing the Edit box

  11. Restart your ULTRA VP and test Jukebox (it should display the video on the backglass now)

  12. If that doesn’t work you can also try to change the screenNum1 and ScreenNum2 to another number until it works. Don’t forget to SAVE and reboot to test.



  • IF SCREEN POSITIONING IS OFF ON ANY MONITORS:

PINUP POPPER DISPLAYS RESOLUTION SETTINGS
(DO NOT MESS WITH THIS UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY - IT CAN BREAK YOU PINUP POPPER DRIVE IF NOT CAREFUL!)

 

  1. Type the word Pinup into the search bar on your taskbar

  2. You will see two choices…  left click on Pinup Popper Config  (Not Pinup Popper Frontend)

  3. The Pinup Popper Setup Window will open

  4. Click on the Popper Setup tab (second tab - not Game Manager)

  5. Click on [Screen / Themes]

  6. It will open the Screens window

  7. Locate and click on the box on the top right named [Configure Displays / Locations]

  8. If it asks you to fix the resolutions click No on all questions until you enter the Pinup Player Displays window

  9. The first four displays will need to be configured… (Topper, DMD, BackGlass, PlayField)

  10. If you have a topper monitor click on Topper (if not skip to DMD)

Make sure the values for Topper are as follows:

width: 1920
height:  1080
Screen xpos: 7680
Screen ypos: 0

Note: after entering these values the light blue outline should match the topper monitor screen size exactly

  1. Make sure you click [Save Settings] box at the bottom (even if the values were correct)

  2. Now click on DMD in the left box

Make sure the values for DMD are as follows (two options depending on your model!) 


OPTION1: For large Stern type 15.6” DMDs (5.0 model):

width: 1825
height:  482
Screen xpos: 5810
Screen ypos: 291

 

Note: after entering these values the light blue outline will NOT match the size of the DMD monitor, that is normal - refer to the video to see what it should look like

 

OPTION 2: For thinner cutout DMDs (3.0 & 4.0 model):

width: 1890
height:  500
Screen xpos: 5760
Screen ypos: 320

Note: after entering these values the light blue outline should match the topper monitor screen size exactly.  Also

 

  1. Make sure you click [Save Settings] box at the bottom  (even if the values were correct)

 

  1. Now click on PlayField in the left box 

Make sure the values for Topper are as follows:

width: 3840
height:  2160
Screen xpos: 0
Screen ypos: 0

Note: after entering these values the light blue outline should match the topper monitor screen size exactly

  1. Make sure you click [Save Settings] box at the bottom (even if the values were correct)

  2. Close the PinUP Player Displays window by clicking on the top left X button and say Yes to the “Are you sure you want to close?” message






  • PINUP POPPER SHOWS BLANK SCREENS AFTER PLAYING A FEW TABLES OR LEAVING IT ON OR AFTER PLAYING FOR A WHILE

This is a known issue and there is nothing wrong with your ULTRA VP. The developers of Pinup Popper acknowledge this issue. All that’s needed is to Restart Pinup Popper to fix that or any other issues. Here is how…

 

  1. When you are positioned in the Pinup Popper Menu (not from a loaded table) you can hit the semi colon key [ ; ] key on your keyboard. 

  2. You will see a window open on the backglass (32”) monitor

  3. Use your right arrow key (arrows on the bottom left of your number keypad) to navigate the menu

  4. Position yourself on Restart Popper

  5. Hit Enter on your keyboard

  6. Pinup Popper will reboot itself

  • FLASHER BRIGHTNESS ADJUSTMENT

In order to adjust the flasher intensity (set to low by default right now) please connect your keyboard.

Turn on your ULTRA VP and wait until it has completely booted up into Pinup Popper

Hit the semi-colon ;  key on your keyboard. 

You will see a windows open on the backglass (32”) monitor

Use your right arrow key (arrows on the bottom left of your number keypad) to navigate the menu

Position yourself on Custom Scripts

Hit Enter on your keyboard

Then select the desired brightness for models 3-5 (do not select for models 1-2)

Hit Enter  (Pinup Popper will reset itself)

Your new flasher brightness will be active now
