Ultra VP Troubleshooting guide

PROBLEM #1 - Overly sensitive Tilting

Tilting sensitivity can be a problem in two distinct areas…

  1. In Pinball FX tables only (see Solution 1 & Solution 2 below)

  2. On all tables (Physical Tilt Bob issue - see Solution 3 below)

Solution 1:  Lower the sensitivity

Use your keyboard mouse when positioned in the menu (not in a table) and hit X to exit into Windows Desktop

Then open File Manager (move your cursor down to the bottom to reveal the taskbar, then double click the Manila Folder

Navigate to  C:\vPinball\Pinball FX3 Williams Pinball Volume 5\x360ce.ini

Open this file by Right Clicking and selecting Edit

Search on the first instance of: Left Analog X Linear

Left Analog X Linear=-100

Left Analog Y Linear=-100

these 2 numbers are probably at -150 each

move them to -100 - see if the problem sticks around (if it does, keep going down by 25 (well it's up cause it's negative but you know what I mean)

Solution 2:  Disable Completely

Open c:\directoutput\doflinx.ini

Edit the file and put 6 #'s in front of the 6 lines starting with JOY_PORT=1 through NUDGE_FORWARD_POINT=2500

Restart your machine and it will no longer do hard nudge.

Solution 3:  Adjust the Tilt Bob physically

If your tilt bob needs physical adjustments here are two videos that show you how:

PROBLEM #2 - Solenoids or other DOF peripherals is not working?!

Solution - Test the peripherals with the Pinscape Config Tool under the OUtputs section to confirm that one of them is not working.

  • From Pinup Popper exit to Windows Desktop (by hitting your X key on your keyboard from inside the Pinup Popper Menu)

  • Open the File Manager (yellow Manila Folder on your Taskbar)

  • Click on your C:  drive

  • Open the PinscapeConfigTool folder

  • Launch the PinscapeConfigTool.exe file

  • Select the Outputs menu choice

  • Test your DOF peripherals with that utility

  • If you find one that is not firing as it should please email us with a replacement part request at info@recroomworld  (free parts during the 24 month warranty period)

PROBLEM #3 - Backglass showing on the DMD screen

Solution - Change the B2S Backglass Number

  • From Pinup Popper exit to Windows Desktop (by hitting your X key on your keyboard from inside the Pinup Popper Menu)

  • Open the File Manager (yellow Manila Folder on your Taskbar)

  • Click on your C:  drive

  • Navigate to the C:\vPinball\VisualPinball\Tables  folder

  • Launch (open) the B2S_Setup.exe

  • Change the Backglass Display number from 2 to 3 (or 3 to 2 depending on what number is displayed)

  • Hit Enter

  • Close the window

  • Now restart your ULTRA VP

PROBLEM #4 - Ball rolling sound is faint on SSF enabled tables

Solution - Print out and follow the Sound Guide for the ULTRA VP

PROBLEM #5 - Front and Flipper Buttons not working

Solution - Use Pinscape Config Tool to apply a different config file to the KLZ control board

  • From Pinup Popper exit to Windows Desktop (by hitting your X key on your keyboard from inside the Pinup Popper Menu)

  • You will need to disable (Exit out of) the Red Flipper Button Icon Program that is running on the bottom right of the taskbar. This can take a few attempts since you have to do this fast. If it restarts Pinup Popper before you Exit just hit X again and try again.

  • If you are running Software version 2.0 or above you will need to close/disable the PinupPopper Reset Application as quickly as possible. It is the red flipper icon on the bottom right of the taskbar.

  • Open the File Manager (yellow Manila Folder on your Taskbar)

  • Click on your C:  drive

  • Open the PinscapeConfigTool folder

  • Launch the PinscapeConfigTool.exe file

  • Select Settings

  • Click on the Floppy Disk looking icon at the bottom right

  • Select Load File

  • In the file selection window navigate to C:\Extra Files to find the psconfig files listed below…

cpYp-ifYfdmEhHKi-LPsOqZ2zvtJ-70F6Nxhm__3lCASZCtUZlFEUfcFxeljFLfJx6H66YVZ0Npf6TnbmF8s8CjEzqITeqYxxWy9GCr_4NV09EqCwTecbtDorTeVY2L3HQRNEReRolsVHs6siGdL7g9Hydebf5g6j8RUrXeJENfdFhNWosxZoFzt

Note:  If those psconfig files are not present on your SSD drive in the C:\Extra Files folder then go to a Windows PC with an internet connection and download them onto a flash drive from this location:  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RLxjrrvrb8uPgptvC1yofI5to4Pgvogj?usp=sharing

Once downloaded, stick the flash drive with those files to a free USB port on the back of your ULTRA VP’s  PC to then access them as described above but of course you will be selecting the flash drive when the file selection window opens.

  • Select the ULTRAVP345_15.psconfig file and click on Open

  • It will want you that it only applied it into memory, say OK

  • Now click on the Program KLZ button at the bottom middle section to apply this config file to the control board

  • Give it enough time to finish and click OK on any Windows that open

  • Now you can reboot your ULTRA VP and see if your buttons work now.

  • If not, try the same process with other psconfig files found in C:\ Extra Files

PROBLEM #6 - Mouse Pointer hard to find on the Windows Desktop

Solution - Better understanding of how extended Windows monitors work together

The ULTRA VP utilizes the Windows Extended Monitor functionality. They are organized as follows:

Monitor #1  - Main Playfield      Monitor #2 - Backglass   Monitor #3 - DMD    Monitor #4 - Topper

When you move your mouse to the right and off the playfield you will end up on the Backglass monitor, then on the DMD if you keep moving to the right and finally on the topper monitor. To recover your mouse to the main playfield desktop you need to move your mouse to the left until you see it reappear.

This is standard Windows multi-monitor behavior for the mouse pointer in an “extended monitor” configuration.

PROBLEM #7 - Plunger is shaking or not well calibrated

Solution - Use Pinscape Config Tool to calibrate your plunger

  • From Pinup Popper exit to Windows Desktop (by hitting your X key on your keyboard from inside the Pinup Popper Menu)

  • Open the File Manager (yellow Manila Folder on your Taskbar)

  • Click on your C:  drive

  • Open the PinscapeConfigTool folder

  • Launch the PinscapeConfigTool.exe file

  • Select Plunger

  • Select Calibrate and read the instructions

  • Follow the instructions to properly calibrate

  • There is a box at the bottom of the calibration utility where you can enter a number. Make sure you enter 65 if not already set that way.

  • That’s it, reboot your ULTRA VP

PROBLEM #8 - PUP-Pack Video Sound (backglass video) too loud or too low

Solution - Follow the instructions on the link below:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1u3XI0q8Xr1-BfSuiTXexmJPpDBb5cU98d7A8sj_eT3s/edit?usp=sharing

PROBLEM #9 - How to enable 2-Player games in Pinball FX 3

Solution - Select Hotseat in the Menu

Once the game starts, hit the coin button to get to the menu, scroll down to Exit to Single Player and hit the launch button, then go to Hotseat and hit the launch button then pick 2 players (up to 4) and hit the launch button.

All this can also be done with the mouse and keyboard if you have one attached. Hit the ESC key to get to the menu after launching a Pinball FX table and use your mouse to navigate.

PROBLEM #10 - How to save Favorites on the ULTRA VP

Solution - Use the Extra Ball button in the Pinup Popper selection menu

While the game is highlighted on the main menu screen (BEFORE you hit START to load a table) hit the EXTRA BALL button.

Scroll to "Global Add to Favorites" (NOT the "Add to Favorites''). Then hit the START button. It doesn't give you any confirmation that it was saved, but if you go back and navigate to "Favorites" in the top level main menu it should be in there.

To remove from Favorites, enter the Favorites category, select (highlight) the table you want to remove and push the blue EXTRA BALL button, then navigate to "Remove from Global Favorites" and push the START button to remove. It will not immediately show you that it

PROBLEM #11 - How to increase Low Volume issues on tables

Solution - Varies depending on the table

It happens sometimes that certain tables lose their original sound volume. If that happens on newer tables you can follow the guide below to restore the main volume to your liking (I am not referring to the surround sound SSF volume).

DISCLAIMER

If the suggested steps below do not work on your table then your best bet is to research Visual Pinball volume adjustments for that particular table on Google. Some tables actually require volume adjustments to be entered into the table script and others just have a different button combination to enter the Manufacturer’s Service Mode.

Volume Adjustment Fix for newer Tables:

  1. Load the table in Pinup Popper (like you normally would to play)

  2. When the table is fully loaded hit the [9] key on your keyboard

  3. You should see on your DMD that it is entering into Service Mode

  4. Now hit the [End] key (on some keyboard this requires using the function key also)

  5. When you are in service mode you can hit [9] repeatedly to increase the volume

  6. You can hit [8] to decrease it if it is too loud

PROBLEM #12 - Table Lighting too dark or too bright (Visual Pinball) - How to tweak

Solution - Open the link below for a guide on how to tweak table lighting in Visual Pinball. Make sure you have a clone copy of the original SSD drive before attempting these tweaks!

PROBLEM #13 - Pinball FX sounds overlaps the real solenoid sounds

Solution - FX tables have SSF (ball rolling, ball drop, ball collision, ball on ramp sounds etc) and annoyingly, they have flipper, bumper and slingshot sounds that overlap the real solenoids in the machine.

Here is how to remove the flipper/bumper/slingshot sounds:

Hit X on your keyboard to exit into Windows from your Pinup Popper Menu System
Use Windows File Explorer (you can find it as a Manilla Folder icon on the hidden taskbar) to navigate to C:\vpinball\PinUPSystem\PUPVideos and Search for the following files…

  • fx_Bumper.wav

  • fx_FlipperDown.wav

  • fx_FlipperUP.wav

  • fx_Slingshot.wav

This will find 100 or so of each wav file.  Use Ctrl-A to highlight the search results and press the delete button.

This will remove the SSF (Spatial Sound Format) sounds that come through the cabinet exciters.  This is not the same as SFX that you see in FX3 audio options which is Special Effects volume in there.

You will still have a flipper sound from the backbox speakers that is built into FX3.  It's way less annoying and obtrusive.  You can get rid of that too by turning the FX3->Options->Audio->PHYSICS VOLUME all the way off but you will then lose the ball rolling, ramp rolling, ball collision sounds.

I setup my audio options with SFX and Physics volume maxed out but you can play with those to fit your preferences.

To prevent not being able to play your ULTRA VP in case of a hard drive failure, or if you inadvertently mess up the screen configurations (it has happened) we highly suggest investing a few dollars in a standalone cloning station (Sabrent Dual Bay Duplication Station on Amazon.com). You will also need an additional blank 1TB SSD drive to clone the drive to. We suggest the following drive on Amazon: TeamGroup 1TB SSD. Follow the video link above on how to clone it correctly.
